TVB artists Selena Li and Leanne Li did a catwalk for a wedding dress show. Selena studied accounting in the University of Toronto. The top three of the Miss Hong Kong Pageant that year was Mandy Cho, Rabee’a Yeung, Priscilla Chi. “In the first two years, I was already able to be second female lead. I was filled with hope. I looked around, which of them were able to move up faster than me? I was so tired that I had no time to sleep, yet I was still happy.” She thought she was making a meteoric rise, but the outcome is that in the next few years it was all ups and downs. I didn’t know how the company positions me, I was very confused.”
“Sometimes I would ponder. My former classmates are all in the financial industry, they earn lots of money. I asked myself, I get good grades and I am willing to work, and I am not too bad looking. If I’m at the other side, I would definitely have a good pay back.”

Career for lifetime

The so-called pre-destined fate is that Selena’s father got bankrupt two years after she entered industry. If it happened two years before, or if it never happened, then Selena will definitely have other plans. “My father’s bankruptcy’s biggest impact on me is that I mentally had no one to rely on anymore. I used to be ambitious, because I knew that after taking risks, regardless of how bad the situation is, I would have my family as back-up. But after the bankruptcy, it was all gone. Pak Fai and Yun Wah drove to Sap Yat’s house to give them the jackets, but they coincidentally saw Sap Yat and Tong Gat having an argument with a mover about their piano. After discovering that Wai Ting had played a part in causing Chak Chai’s death, Sap Yat decided not to touch boxing anymore and even rejected the teaching position as his master’s boxing club. He threw away all his boxing equipment and chose to keep his security guard position at Jun Tin Enterprises, using the more stable salary to support Tong Gat as an excuse.

Seeing Sap Yat give up his boxing dream to stay as a security guard, Pak Fai was extremely disappointed and in fact, felt a little furious. Pak Fai and Yun Wah were going to play golf with their families when suddenly; Sap Yat gave Pak Fai a call, realizing that Tong Gat had not gone to his piano lessons.  Pak Fai was extremely worried, so Yun Wah offered to go golfing himself and take Pak Fai to find Sap Yat.

Pak Fai and Sap Yat eventually find Tong Gat with the old lady, helping her with her cardboard boxes. Tong Gat stated that he wanted to help earn more money by selling cardboard boxes. Suddenly, an old man appeared behind them, who turned out to be Sap Yat’s father-in-law, Jan Fan.

Jan Fan goes home with Pak Fai, Sap Yat and Tong Gat, and immediately expresses his disapproval of their living conditions. Jan Fan insists on having Tong Gat live with him in Canada instead, so he can have a better learning environment and education. He even uses money to convince Sap Yat, offering one million dollars in exchange for Tong Gat. Pak Fai furiously retorts back, saying that she would offer five million dollars. She tells him:

“I know you love your grandson, you love Gat Jai. But please open your eyes and look! See how happy they are living together. Money cannot buy love, so Gat Jai won’t leave with you!”

With this, it is evident that Pak Fai cares a whole lot for both Sap Yat and Gat Jai, perhaps more than normal…

Episode 8 Recap:

Yun Wah personally went to Jun Tin Enterprises to wait for Pak Fai to finish work. Sap Yat notified Pak Fai, but Pak Fai was still upset about how they had ended their relationship and refused to see Yun Wah. The story between Pak Fai and Yun Wah was that back then, Yun Wah had refused to go to Holland with Pak Fai and they had gotten into an argument because of this. Then Yun Wah blurted out that they play a “game” that whoever calls the other first loses. In the end, neither of them called each other, and their relationship therefore came to an end.

Sap Yat went to persuade Yun Wah to leave first as Pak Fai refused to see him. Instead, Yun Wah gave him a note to give to Pak Fai. When Pak Fai saw the numbers on the note, she misunderstood Yun Wah’s meaning and was even more furious. Pak Fai recognized the same numbers that Yun Wah had texted her years ago before, but she assumed that he just put random numbers down so that she would phone him first to ask him the meaning of the note. Sap Yat couldn’t solve the problem between the two, so he secretly brought Yun Wah to Pak Fai’s office and made the both of them talk.

Yun Wah explained to Pak Fai that in the beginning, the set of numbers were really to make Pak Fai phone him first and ask him of the meaning; however they were not randomly chosen and actually had a meaning – the longitude and latitude coordinates of Amsterdam. He wanted to tell her that he would go to Amsterdam to find her, but she wouldn’t pick up his calls or return his texts. He even showed her the plane ticket he booked to Amsterdam 7 years ago. He went to all the landmarks in Amsterdam to try and find her, but they never met.

Yun Wah then phoned Pak Fai’s phone (although they were right in front of each other) and said:

“Donna, this phone call is 7 years late. I want to tell you that I’m not going skiing anymore. I’ll go to Holland with you. I’ll wait for you at Amsterdam and see the flower show with you. Will you accept this apology?”

Pak Fai accepted his apology, and the two decided to start over again, as they didn’t want to miss out on their fate again.

At work, Pak Fai approached Sap Yat and ate with lunch with him, publicly displaying the friendship between Sap Yat and Pak Fai; a relationship that no other employees have with the boss.

Tong Gat had trouble with his English homework; luckily Sap Yat thought of Pak Fai and called her for help, hoping she can help answer his son’s questions. Surprisingly, Pak Fai didn’t feel bothered at all and even personally went to their home to tutor Tong Gat, making Sap Yat very grateful for her help.

When Sap Yat was walking Pak Fai out, Sap Yat expressed his gratitude and even introduced some extremely delicious Thailand skewers to Pak Fai. Their friendship can be seen to be getting stronger and stronger.Suddenly, they saw a group of young teenagers trying to take a middle-aged man’s money. Sap Yat decided to stop them, and held a girl named Ding Yun Chi back. The group of teenagers tried to attack Sap Yat and successfully helped Yun Chi get away. Sap Yat then realized that his wallet had been stolen, and immediately assumed that Yun Chi stole it. He  told the man to call the police for help, but he nervously rejected. Sap Yat and Pak Fai immediately felt suspicious.

The next day, Sap Yat saw Yun Chi on the streets again. As Sap Yat was chasing her, Yun Chi quickly ran out the streets to escape and accidentally got hit by a car. Sap Yat saw Yun Chi anxiously picking up the medicine that fell on the ground and ran away, although she was injured. However, because Yun Chi was in a hurry, she forgot to pick up her phone, which Sap Yat picked up for her instead.

Sap Yat was in a hurry to withdraw some money at the bank, but the line was extremely long! Meanwhile, Sap Yat was on the phone with Pak Fai, telling her about his experience seeing “the girl” again. Complaining that the line at the bank was too long, Pak Fai asked Sap Yat which bank he was at and with that, they ended their call. Suddenly, the bank manager came out and called for Sap Yat and personally served him, although all the wanted was to withdraw $500 HKD. Questioning why all this was happening, the bank manager told him that it was all because of Pak Fai. At that moment, Sap Yat realized that Pak Fai was actually one of the Chong Hing Yip bank directors’ daughter.

Pak Fai attended her family bank’s mid-year report conference and there, she suddenly saw her first love, Leung Yun Wah. But the memories of their past were unhappy, so Pak Fai treated him very coldly.

To express her frustration to someone, she went to Sap Yat’s house again, hoping to speak to Sap Yat about her troubles. Pak Fai had asked Tong Gat to order the same Thailand skewers she had with Sap Yat last time while tutoring Tong Gat. As Sap Yat was going home, he saw the delivery man. The delivery man returned the wallet that Sap Yat had thought was stolen by Yun Chi, and realized that he had dropped it in front of the shop while buying the skewers with Pak Fai the other night.

Back at his home, he enjoyed the skewers with Pak Fai and Tong Gat, but in the middle of the meal, Tong Gat left the house. However, Sap Yat was not worried, as he knew Tong Gat had gone to visit an old lady that always collected cardboard boxes for money. Tong Gat had brought some skewers for the lady, and Pak Fai and Sap Yat went to join him. Together, the three even helped the old lady pack the cardboard boxes and exchanged them for money for her.

Pak Fai expressed to Sap Yat that she wanted to reveal her and Patrick’s affair to Patrick’s wife; however in the end, she became hesitant.  Seeing Pak Fai feeling painful about the relationship, Sap Yat encouraged her to make things clear between Patrick and her.

Pak Fai was busy with work at the office when her phone suddenly rang. She picked up her phone and immediately stuffed it into Sap Yat’s hands without answering it, asking him to keep it for her. Only until after work, Pak Fai went and claimed her phone from Sap Yat. Sap Yat could tell that the reason for all this was because she wanted to avoid Patrick’s calls. Pak Fai told Sap Yat that Patrick had told her that his wife discovered she has cancer, clearly delaying the ‘divorce’ Patrick had promised. Although Pak Fai already knew the reality beneath the story, she still asked for Sap Yat’s opinion. Pak Fai asked Sap Yat to accompany her to find Patrick, hoping to finally clear things up between the love triangle.

Pak Fai and Sap Yat arrived at a restaurant, knowing that Patrick would be there with his wife. Just when Pak Fai was about to approach them, another woman (who turns out to be another mistress of Patrick’s) appeared and threw a fit in front of the married couple, and getting a slap from Patrick in return. Both Pak Fai and Sap Yat were extremely shocked, and Pak Fai found herself relieved that she wasn’t the one who was slapped in public.

The two wandered  to the sea side, and Pak Fai thanked Sap Yat for being with her at her low times.

When Sap Yat was patrolling near Pak Fai’s office, he heard her fighting with her boyfriend once again. She was so mad she even threw her cellphone on the ground. Sap Yat picked up her phone and returned it to her. Pak Fai then asked for Sap Yat’s help once again.

Patrick and Pak Fai met at the mountain top and Patrick anxiously asked her why she took her laptop to a public shop to have it fixed. Pak Fai understood right away that Patrick was only scared that their intimate photos would be leaked out, feeling angry and sad about her lover’s actions. Patrick is worried that his affair would affect his career; therefore he even refused to give Pak Fai a ride and left, scared that there was paparazzi following them.

Sap Yat received a call from Pak Fai, and learned that she fell extremely drunk at a bar. Sap Yat went to the bar and took Pak Fai away. While she was still incredibly drunk, she had Sap Yat drive her to Patrick’s apartment and started yelling and screaming outside of the residences. Sap Yat was afraid she would disturb others and quickly tried to stop her and pulling her away.

At this moment, Pak Fai suddenly forced a kiss on Sap Yat, taking him by surprise. Sap Yat pushed Pak Fai away, and told her that she shouldn’t wreck herself like that. Pak Fai fell to the ground speechless and in pain.

She told Sap Yat all her worries and sorrows; Sap Yat urged her not to force herself to stay in an unhappy relationship and that she could easily find someone better with her qualities.  Hearing this, Pak Fai felt even more confused.

Pak Fai tried to get in contact with Sap Yat for advice again, but instead, she had to go find him at his house as his phone was turned off. When Sap Yat turned on his phone, Wai Ting was finally able to reach him, notifying him that Chak Chai’s son, Jong Chai, had arrived to Hong Kong and would probably come to find him.

Sap Yat and Pak Fai immediately went down outside his apartment, and in fact, Jong Chai had arrived to see him. Seeing this scene, Pak Fai seemed extremely confused and worried.

Pak Fai discovered a huge mistake from the Design Department and scolded all the department employees for making such serious mistakes. Because of her strict ways, Pak Fai became a hated figure in the employees‘ eyes. When Pak Fai accidentally slipped on the floor, no one was willing to help her out.

As Sap Yat was leaving work, he saw Pak Fai limping out of the building and decided to help her walk out, but surprisingly, Pak Fai requested Sap Yat to be her driver. Sap Yat drove to their destination and realized that Pak Fai was in a hurry to vote for the district council elections. Thinking he was off the hook, Pak Fai requested to go to a café for something to eat instead.

After eating, Sap Yat was in a hurry to go home to look after his son, but as Pak Fai got up to stop him, he realized her foot was still in pain. To ease the pain, Sap Yat willingly helped massage Pak Fai’s foot. At this moment, the election results were about to be announced on TV and Pak Fai’s attention was immediately diverted to the screen. Sap Yat noticed how nervous her expression was as she waited for the results. When Wong Bak Tak (Patrick) was announced as the winner of the election, Pak Fai could not hide her happiness, but when Patrick was stating his gratitude for his team and “most importantly…his wife”, her disappointment was also very clear; leading Sap Yat to thinking that the two may have an ambiguous relationship…

Author’s Comments (Chloe): Still quite disappointed that Selena’s screen time is quite limited…I guess I will have to be expecting this until (hopefully) later into the series when love blossoms between Sap Yat and Pak Fai. Since this is a 30 episode series, I guess it’ll be several episodes till that happens. This episode seems to be the beginning of describing Pak Fai’s ‘weakness’. I think it’s pretty obvious to all of us that Pak Fai IS indeed involved in a relationship with Patrick – a man who is married?! Clearly the Pak Fai who is usually smart, intelligent and clear minded was not her usual self when making the decision to be with this guy…. Technically no confirmation in this episode yet, so we’ll probably know more details in the next episode! On the other hand, Pak Fai and Sap Yat’s relationship sure is kind of developing fast. To think you are massaging your boss’ foot in public…. and it’s only been a matter of days? Hahahaha! If I were Sap Yat, I’d be afraid of being accused of “brushing the boss’ shoes” too. Seems like Pak Fai has an indescribable trust for Sap Yat, even though he is just a plain security guard for her office building.
